Husband-wife craftsmen Patrick and Peggy Bookey create this stunning Koa bowl with pierced designs. This Koa bowls is a hand-crafted work of art. Patrick starts with a solid chunk of Koa from dead or previously fallen trees on the Big Island. He then dries the wood to 8% humidity before lathe-turning it into a bowl of a very thin consistent thickness. Then Peggy takes over and begins the intricate painstaking process of cutting out minute pieces from the bowl to form a lace-like pattern with Hawaiian images. Some bowls show sea creatures such as whales or honu sea turtles. Other bowls show Hawaiian flowers like hibiscus and plumeria. We are delighted to feature the Bookey's pierced Koa bowls exclusively.
